The prostate is a male organ called a gland, located below the bladder, through which the urethra passes.  This organ has a very important function in reproduction. However, the prostate is prone to certain diseases.

According to Dr Seid Dounia Akouya, Urologist at the Renaissance Hospital (Chad), there are three main diseases that affect it. There is benign prostatic hypertrophy, prostate infection and prostate cancer. However, the most common disease is prostate adenoma. This is a new tissue that invades the prostate gland and was once called benign prostatic hypertrophy. The tissue causes the prostate to enlarge. And this enlargement of the prostate can cause a lot of symptoms. That's why sometimes the patient goes out twice in the night to urinate and this is not normal. Generally, prostate cancer affects men aged 40 and over. In Togo, according to Professor Kodjo Michel Tengue, Head of the Urology Department at the Sylvanus Olympio University Hospital in Lomé, we record about 300 new cases of prostate cancer each year.

To avoid prostate-related diseases, the doctor suggests not sitting for long periods of time in front of the television, and limiting or even regularly consuming anything that irritates the bladder, such as coffee, energy drinks and sugar. From the age of 40 onwards, urologists advise patients to have the necessary health check-up, i.e. a chest X-ray, blood sugar levels and a blood test. Even if there is a problem with the prostate gland, doctors can immediately discover it and adapt a treatment that they call drug treatment to prevent the disease from progressing.

Recipe to prevent prostate disease: Take 8 large onions or a dozen if they are medium sized. Remove the dry skin from the onions and clean them thoroughly. Then chop them coarsely and pound or crush them. Avoid using a blender to avoid adding water.  Collect the pure onion juice with a scarf or a clean cloth. Drink a 33cl glass of this juice, or a beer glass. It is best to drink this juice on an empty stomach. Repeat the operation three weeks later, then a third time after another three weeks.
