The

prefecture) is now operational. It was inaugurated on April 6, 2023 by the
Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal
Access Dr. Kokou Wotobe. It was in the presence of local authorities and
officials of the international NGO Christian Blind Mission (CBM), financial
partner of the project.
The
work will not only raise awareness of the population on health, but also train
community health workers and opinion leaders on eye health, take care of eye
diseases including cataract. The initiative is part of the implementation of
the project for access to inclusive eye care in the prefectures of Avé and
Yoto, which started in 2022 with the aim of increasing eye health coverage in
the districts of the maritime region. In Togo, the eye health of the population
remains a priority at the top of the State. In 2022, on the initiative of the
Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé, a national zero cataract campaign was held
which enabled thousands of people suffering from cataracts, which cause
