The ophthalmology unit of the Prefectural Hospital Centre (CHP) of Tabligbo (Yoto prefecture) is now operational. It was inaugurated on April 6, 2023 by the Secretary General of the Ministry of Health, Public Hygiene and Universal Access Dr. Kokou Wotobe. It was in the presence of local authorities and officials of the international NGO Christian Blind Mission (CBM), financial partner of the project.

The work will not only raise awareness of the population on health, but also train community health workers and opinion leaders on eye health, take care of eye diseases including cataract. The initiative is part of the implementation of the project for access to inclusive eye care in the prefectures of Avé and Yoto, which started in 2022 with the aim of increasing eye health coverage in the districts of the maritime region. In Togo, the eye health of the population remains a priority at the top of the State. In 2022, on the initiative of the Head of State, Faure Gnassingbé, a national zero cataract campaign was held which enabled thousands of people suffering from cataracts, which cause impaired vision, to be consulted and operated on.
