Nutritionists and doctors recommend limiting meat consumption to 500g per week. The reason ? The link established between these foods and the risk of cancer and cardiovascular disease in particular. A new study provides further evidence of the dangers of excessive consumption of red and processed meat in terms of stroke.

In fact, a team from Harvard's T.H. Chan School of Public Health in Boston has shown that the biggest consumers of animal fats (excluding dairy products) have a 16% higher risk of stroke than smaller consumers. For red meat in particular, this risk was 8%, and 12% for processed meat. The highest consumers of polyunsaturated fats from plant-based foods had a 12% lower risk of stroke. Further proof of the importance of a balanced diet, in which meat and processed foods should not take up too much space.
