The Prefectural Directorate of Health and Public Hygiene is calling on the inhabitants of Yoto (DPSHP-Y) and the surrounding area to refrain, until further notice, from consuming dishes made with blood broth, often called “Houmbli,” purchased in markets.

In a statement released on Monday, July 28, Dr. Abace Dadja, prefectural director, urges the population to follow the following safety measures: "Cook meat and animal products thoroughly before eating them, avoid consuming spoiled products, wash your hands with soap and water before preparing or handling food, and report any unusual or suspicious deaths. If you see someone with diarrhea and abdominal pain or vomiting, take them immediately to the nearest health center."

Since Monday, July 28, numerous cases of severe diarrhea have been reported in the neighboring district of Bas Mono, unfortunately resulting in several deaths despite treatment. “Investigations have shown that those affected ate a local dish made from blood broth, commonly known as ‘houmbli,’ on the evening of Sunday, July 27. The dish was served to them by a street vendor who travels from market to market, and whose origin has not yet been clearly identified,” the statement said.

Professor Tchin Darre, Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, visited Saint Jean de Dieu Hospital in Afagnan on Monday, July 28, to inquire about the condition of the hospitalized patients, thus demonstrating the government's support for the victims of this major food poisoning incident. The minister urged the public to be vigilant and to report any suspicious situations immediately to medical centers in order to prevent the disease from spreading further. The DPSHP-Y is counting on everyone's vigilance to protect their health.
