Faced
with the excessive consumption of energy drinks, artisanal alcoholic beverages
sold without any health control, substances of various kinds, as well as the
misuse of psychoactive medications, which constitute a real public health
threat, the ministry in charge of Health, through a statement issued on
Wednesday, August 5, called for everyone’s responsibility.
These
practices, often trivialized, are gradually destroying the body, the statement
noted. They weaken the heart, liver, kidneys and brain. They promote the onset
of chronic diseases, reduce life expectancy and jeopardize the future of young
people in particular. The statement also stressed that, beyond human suffering,
the consequences of these behaviors represent a considerable economic and
social burden for families and the nation as a whole.
« Preserving
one’s health is also an act of patriotism. It means protecting one’s family,
contributing to the country’s development and enabling our health system to
continue responding effectively to everyone’s needs »,
said the Minister in charge of Health, Jean-Marie Koffi Tessi.
Furthermore,
the minister urged young people to engage in regular physical activity; to
prioritize water as their main source of hydration; to adopt a healthy diet by
consuming more locally produced fruits and vegetables and reducing their intake
of sugar, salt and oil. He also advised against the use of harmful substances
or medications without medical prescription and encouraged people to seek
well-being through a balanced lifestyle.
« Our
health is priceless. We preserve it every day through responsible choices and
habits. Together, let us make prevention the first medicine and individual
responsibility the first shield against disease »,
the minister stressed.
