On
Monday 03 February 2025, the Minister for Health and Public Hygiene, Professor
Tchin Darre, paid a field visit to the Prefectural Hospital Centre (CHP) in
Djarkpanga, located around 80 km from Bassar, as part of his monitoring of
ongoing projects and new health infrastructure in the Mô district. The visit is
part of the government's commitment to improving access to healthcare and the
quality of health services in rural areas.
In
the coming days, the CHP in Djarkpanga will benefit from the renovation and
construction of health infrastructure, an initiative made possible thanks to
the partnership between the Togolese government and KfW, a development
financing organisation. One of the most notable projects is the construction of
a large maternity hospital, a major undertaking that will meet the local need
for obstetric care. The site of the future maternity unit was visited by the
Minister, who expressed his optimism that the work would have a positive impact
on the health of the local population.
During
his visit, Professor Tchin Darre urged health staff to redouble their efforts
to improve health services and have a positive impact on the health of the
population. He also stressed the importance of maintaining the equipment
recently made available, pointing out that these modern facilities must be
properly used and maintained to ensure their longevity.
The
minister also visited a mobile clinic set up by the Togolese Armed Forces in
memory of the late President Gnassingbé Eyadéma. This initiative, which was
launched a few weeks ago, has been a great success with the local population,
responding to a crucial need for healthcare in this remote region.

Tchin Darré at the USP Tindjassé before renovation work begins
Continuing
his trip, Minister Tchin DARRE visited the Unité Sanitaire de Proximité (USP)
in Tindjassé, also in the Mô district, where work is planned to renovate the
existing infrastructure and build a modern maternity unit. This project is supported by partners such as
GIZ and Plan Togo. The minister emphasised the importance of these improvements
in boosting healthcare provision in the area.
Statistics
from the Prefectural Health Department (DPS) show that the leading cause of
consultations in the region is malaria, followed by snake bites and respiratory
infections. The minister called on those
involved in the operation to take stronger measures to respond rapidly to these
cases, particularly during periods of high incidence.
Professor
Tchin Darre's visit demonstrates the Togolese government's ongoing commitment
to improving health infrastructure and increasing access to healthcare for
rural populations.
