grinding food. It can also help you lose weight. Once in the mouth, food is
reduced to small pieces, shredded by the teeth to be more easily swallowed. In
contact with saliva and its digestive enzymes, it then forms the "food
bowl" which is propelled by the tongue to the back of the mouth before
being swallowed. Prolonged chewing will keep the food in the mouth longer. And
this can promote weight loss. It takes the brain 20 to 30 minutes to send the
first signals of satiety. So the faster you eat, the more time you have to
absorb food before you feel full. Chewing slowly will also help the digestive
system to fight against bloating.
