Campaign
to distribute free insecticide-treated mosquito nets in Togo: the household
census phase begins today, 26 May
From
26 May to 6 June 2026, the household census phase will take place as part of
the national campaign for the free distribution of insecticide-treated mosquito
nets. This activity is essential to ensure the effective and equitable
distribution of mosquito nets to households across the country. It is also a
crucial step in strengthening the fight against malaria.
So,
starting today, 26 May, enumerators will begin travelling through all the
towns, villages and neighbourhoods of Togo to register or count
households.
How
will the household census be carried out?
In
practical terms, teams of enumerators will go door-to-door to identify each
household, gather information on the number of people living there and record
the necessary data. Once the census is complete, the information collected will
enable us to assess the actual need for mosquito nets and allocate to each
household the quantity appropriate to its size. A voucher is given to each
household during the census. The voucher contains information including the
number of mosquito nets allocated to the household based on the information
they provided honestly to the enumerators. This voucher must be presented
during the distribution phase to collect the mosquito nets.
This
voucher must be presented during the distribution phase in order to collect the
mosquito nets. According to the Ministry of Health, for the 2026 campaign, one
(1) mosquito net will be provided for every two (2) people in each household.
Malaria
remains a major public health challenge in Togo. Regular use of treated
mosquito nets helps to significantly reduce the risk of disease transmission,
particularly among children under five (5) years of age, pregnant women and the
general population.
High-quality
data collected during this enumeration phase ensures better organisation of the
distribution phase and is essential for reaching a greater number of
beneficiaries.
National
Mobilisation
People
in every locality across Togo are urged to welcome the enumerators warmly. They
are asked to provide accurate information and to register. The involvement and
cooperation of every household are vital to making this campaign a success.
