Biomedical
analyses are medical examinations that require biological knowledge. They are
carried out by laboratory technicians. They are carried out on biological
fluids. These include blood, urine, semen and vaginal secretions.
Medical
tests on biological media are of crucial importance in the life of every human
being. This is because they play a primary role in the prevention of many
diseases. According to Jean Richard Houndékon, a laboratory technician at CMS
Pura Pagani Yokoé, « biomedical
analyses are intended to provide a report or assessment on the functioning of
our body or to make a diagnosis in case of illness. They allow us to anticipate
an illness. Because knowing the state of our body's functioning, we will know
what steps to take to avoid certain diseases as best we can. They also enable a diagnosis to be made by
detecting anomalies in the first place ». Since the early discovery of
an anomaly, even in the absence of any symptoms, will allow for early treatment
and appropriate monitoring to avoid the development of the disease or
complications.
Furthermore,
« in the event of the appearance of
symptoms, they make it possible to establish, confirm or not a diagnosis and to
monitor a disease. Given that a wrong
diagnosis will lead to complications and the probable development of other
diseases », Houndékon stresses. Follow-up of the diagnosis is equally
important, as it is necessary to ensure that the medication given to the
patient is effective.
Performing certain tests
The
lipid test is an analysis that consists of measuring the level of fat in the
body to prevent heart disease such as stroke or angina. In order to know the
state of the kidneys and to prevent their dysfunction, the rate of a substance
present in the blood as well as in the urine, the creatinine, is measured and
compared. The liver test is an analysis
of the amount of transaminases, which are substances whose high level in the
blood indicates a problem or damage to the liver.
Certainly,
depending on the nature of the parameter to be analysed, there are different
types of biomedical analyses such as biochemical examinations, which consist of
measuring the quantities of the constituents of biological fluids such as
glycaemia, the renal check-up; haematological examinations, which consist of
analysing the components of the blood, including a reduction in the quality or
quantity of red blood cells to determine anaemia; parasitological examinations,
which aim to identify the agent responsible for infection, including malaria,
and the search for intestinal worms.
Every
living person, whether healthy or not, must undergo biomedical analysis to be able
to prevent or receive appropriate treatment.
